Chapter X – Part 1

Ignoranti quem portum petat nullus suus ventus est.*)

Seneca

$ Time goes by so quickly. I wonder what I have been doing all this year.

$ Christmas in three weeks’ time.

$ Don’t tell me about this.

$ Did you commit yourself to New Year’s resolutions?

$ Of course not! I grew out of this kind of naivety ages ago.

$ What do you mean?

$ To me it’s naive to believe that one of my habits will leave me only because the agenda turned to January 1st. If I want to change something I do it right this second or not at all.

$ And how do you work on your targets and expectations?

$ For example, one of my aims was to participate in the competition “Young at Business”. So I applied and went through the whole procedure.

$ Tell me how it was.

$ Oh, I was pissed off because after the first stage we got a letter that said: we regret to inform you that we were forced to withdraw your application due to a formal oversight. We’re now fighting against the Organizational Committee. What the hell do they think? That we’ll be kicked off if a VIP’s cousin comes up with the idea of participating in this competition after the deadline?!

$ You’re fighting for your rights.

$ Indeed.

$ Today I’d like to encourage you to have a look at this aim from a larger perspective. Have a look at these concepts, please:

1. CAREER, LIFE MISSION, INDIVIDUALITY

2. LOVE, MARRIAGE, RELATIONSHIPS, CLIENTS

3. FAMILY, COMMUNITY, PAST, ANCESTORS, TEACHERS, SUPERIORS

4. WEALTH, PROSPERITY, SELF-WORTH, LUCK

5. GOOD FORTUNE, HEALTH, WELL-BEING, HARMONY

6. HELPFUL  PEOPLE, FRIENDS, TRAVEL, CHARITY

7. CREATIVITY, CHILDREN, ENTERTAINMENT, FUTURE

8. WISDOM, SELF-KNOWLEDGE, REST, MEDITATION

9. FAME, REPUTATION, SOCIAL LIFE, SELF-IMAGE, ENLIGHTEMENT

They are inspired by a bagua map. Acccording to Feng Shui, it represents nine aspects of life, main ingredients of a harmonious, full life. Your task is to complete every bagua with:
- three priorities,
- three realistic short-term goals
- three dreams – assuming that sky is the limit.
While you’re working on your priorities, goals and dreams I’m going to ask you additional questions that may be helpful for your reflection. Otherwise, ignore them. Let’s get started!

Number 1. What do you want to achieve in your professional life? Are you fulfilled in your present job? Is your job your dream job? What would you do all days long / every day if you were a billionaire?

Two.

$ Wait, wait. I’m not quite sure whether I understand how the division of bagua goes. In my opinion, professional fulfillment can be in bagua 1 and 9. And in 4 too – considering your last question.

$ Feng Shui is above all else about intuition. Trust yourself and put down the very first thought that comes to your mind. Anyway, this scheme is supposed to describe the full of your life. If you have the impression that it rather limits your contact with yourself, we’ll work on your targets in a different way.

$ No, I like this kind of putting things into order. Probably I wanted to go with the flow of my unconsumed perfectionism again.

$ Unconsumed perfectionism. Hahahahaha! Who told you that?

$ You did.

$ I know, I know. You quoted me, I’m flattered. So, number 2.
